I'm not sure what methods you used (creating 2 quasi exposures and remerging the three images or what) but the picture looks great. I wouldn't call it an HDR though, since you used one exposure you basically recreate the original photo (note the treeline is still dark, a typical HDR would show the detail of the trees while maintaiing the detail of the sky.). The difference comes in with tone mapping.

Thats why I was wondering how you did it, because I think you can just tone map one image to get some interesting and unique effects like this without the extra work. Let me know how it went because I've been considering playing with tone mapping on single exposures to see what could happen, but I wonder if its any different than tweaking lighroom settings.. (vibrance,saturation, contrast ect..)
Well I converted the original jpg into photoshop raw format. Then bumped it up 1 then 2 exp then down 1 and 2. I had downloaded a trial version of Photomatix to play around with the hdr process and tone mapping..and gro the resulting pic.. then the program died on me.. now it will not launch..that's the short version of what I did..
